The RF100-400mm F5.6-8 IS USM is similar in size to the EF 70-300mm F4.5-5.6 IS II USM lens, and not only reaches to 400mm, but also has fast Nano USM focusing and up to 6 stops of Coordinated IS when used in combination with an EOS R series camera featuring In-body Image Stabilization, like the EOS R5 and EOS R6, or 5.5 stops with an EOS R/RP camera. Using a single Ultra Low Dispersion lens element towards the front of the lens group corrects chromatic aberration throughout the entire zoom range, making your images look crisp and colorful with minimal color blur. The RF100-400mm F5.6-8 IS USM lens can also accept both the RF1.4x and RF2x tele extenders giving you the effective maximum focal length of 560mm and 800mm respectively. Located towards the front of the lens and effectively adding a third dial to the EOS R camera's main dial and quick control dial, the control ring has a tactile, easily distinguished surface and features a clicking mechanism that provides tangible feedback for confident use while looking through the viewfinder. A combination of Fluorite and Super UD (Ultra-low Dispersion) glass is at the heart of this lens’s outstanding optical performance. At the widest aperture of f/2.8, chromatic aberration is significantly reduced, to achieve tack-sharp images with minimal color fringing. This means detailed results in any shooting condition, particularly in low light levels.

The RF version, dedicated to EOS R-series cameras, preserves this advantage, providing outstanding handling for a super-tele lens with an f/2.8 maximum aperture. Three IS Operation Modes
Three image stabilization modes provide shake-correction for outstanding results in a wide range of shooting situations. These include traditional stabilization, with the correction visible any time IS is active in the camera’s viewfinder (IS Mode 1); helping to correct camera shake when intentionally panning horizontally (or vertically), providing shake-correction perpendicular to the photographer’s panning movement (IS Mode 2); and stabilization that instantly goes into effect only when the shutter is released — no correction visible between shots, in the camera’s viewfinder (IS Mode 3).
